SARS (seryl-tRNA synthetase) is a novel member of the aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase family and class II tRNA synthetases. It is composed of catalytic domain with a seven-stranded anti-parallel β-sheet and three conserved sequence motifs.

SARS (seryl-tRNA synthetase) is involved in the translation and regulation of vascular development. It performs an important role in protein synthesis by catalyzing aminoacylation reaction. Mutation in SARS causes a rare mitochondrial disease, HUPRA syndrome that is coupled with hyperuricemia, pulmonary hypertension and renal failure.
