General description

Inositol phospholipid species are membrane-bound signaling molecules that have been implicated in almost all aspects of cellular physiology, including cellular growth, metabolism, proliferation, and survival.
Phosphatidylinositol is a structural phospholipid. Phosphatidylinositol phosphate (PIP) is located in the plasma membrane.

Application

18:1 PI(3,4,5)P3 is suitable to use in lipid stock preparation to form mixed micelles. It has also been used:
  • in the preparation of planar-supported lipid bilayers (SLBs)
  • in supplementing or enriching phagocyte membrane
  • in liposome preparation

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphoinositol-containing sphingolipids can induce ATPase at lower levels when compared to glycerophospholipids.
