General description

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is an anionic phospholipid. Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is mostly found in the pulmonary surfactant and localized to the alveoli.(6) Nitrobenzoxadiazole phosphoglycerol (NBD PG) is a fluorescent analog with the fluorophore, 7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl (NBD) linked to the fatty acid chain of the phosphatidylglycerol.

Application

18:1-12:0 NBD PG might be used to study the use of fluorescence as a means of tracking the gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in live cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is involved in the inflammatory mechanism and offers protection against viral infection.(6) It also contributes to the photosynthetic activity by maintaining the structural photosynthetic apparatus.
