Gene Information

human ... STAT3(6774)

General description

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), a constituent of the interleukin-6- (IL-6) activated acute phase response factor (APRF) complex, belongs to the signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) family. It is expressed in all types of tissues. The STAT3 gene with 24 exons is mapped to human chromosome 17q21.2.

Immunogen

Peptide sequence around phosphorylation site of serine 727 (P-M-S(p)-P-R), according to the protein STAT3.

Application

Anti-phospho-STAT3 (pSer727) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting (1:1000) and immunofluorescence staining (1:200).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) protein play a key role in cell growth, apoptosis, metabolism, cellular respiration, and autophagy. It may act as a co-activator of signal transduction by glucocorticoid receptors. STAT3 regulates transcription. It is involved in the development of vertebrates and the regulation of inflammation and immunity. It might participate in airway inflammation, allergy, and asthma. Mutations in the STAT3 gene are associated with immunodeficiency, autoimmunity, and cancer.

Target description

Transcription factor that binds to the interleukin-6 (IL-6)-responsive elements identified in the promoters of various acute-phase protein genes. Activated by IL31 through IL31RA.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate-buffered saline containing 0.02% sodium azide and 50% glycerol
