General description

Hy-Case® SF is a high-quality acid hydrolysis of casein. Casein is a rich source of amino nitrogen so on treatment with a strong acid, it gets hydrolysed, producing free amino acids and several short peptide fragments. Special processing keeps inorganic ions to a minimum, so Hy-Case® SF is virtually a high concentration of free amino acids with a minimum of salt. It is a refined grade hydrolysate with high clarity in solution and is food grade and is recommended where a mixture of highly soluble free amino acids is required. It is especially recommended when inorganic ion levels need to be kept at a minimum.

Application

Casein hydrolysate Hy-Case® SF was used in DMCY medium, during an experimental study conducted to investigate the role of ssgA gene product in promoting the sporulation and cell division in Streptomyces griseus. It may also be used in the YH medium in studies related to Halobacterium denitrificans sp. which is characterised as being carbohydrate-utilizing, denitrifying, extremely halophilic bacteria.
Recommended for use as a microbiological nutrient in laboratory media, fermentations, and tissue culture applications requiring a mixture of highly soluble free amino acids.

The ssgA gene of Streptomyces griseus B2682, when present in high copy number, results in both suppression of sporulation and fragmented growth of mycelia. Western analysis with polyclonal antibodies against the gene product (SsgA) revealed a close correlation between SsgA

Halobacterium denitrificans was one of several carbohydrate-utilizing, denitrifying, extremely halophilic bacteria isolated by anaerobic enrichment in the presence of nitrate. Anaerobic growth took place only when nitrate (or nitrite) was present and was accompanied by the production of dinitrogen.
