General description

Lysophosphotidylinositol (LPI) is a bioactive lipid obtained from the phospholipase A (PLA) family of lipases.

Application

Liver Lyso PI has been used to enhance the binding efficiency of ovalbumin peptide to class II major histocompatibility molecules.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Lysophosphotidylinositol (LPI) is involved in metabolism and glucose homeostasis. It also affects cellular growth, differentiation and motility of various cells, such as nerve cells, endothelial cells and cancer cells. LPI is an endogenous ligand for G-protein coupled receptor, GPR55.

Shiga toxin (Stx), an AB5 toxin, binds specifically to the neutral glycosphingolipid Gb3 at the cell surface before being transported into cells. We here demonstrate that addition of conical lysophospholipids (LPLs) with large head groups inhibit Stx binding to cells
