General description

15:0-18:1-d7-PC (1-pentadecanoyl-2-oleoyl(d7)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) is a deuterated phospholipid. The lipid comprises phosphatidylcholine attached to pentadecanoic acid and oleic acid. Oleic acid harbors the deuterium ions. Phospholipids, in general are amphiphilic and have phosphocholine moiety attached to sn-3 position of glycerol. Phosphatidylcholine is a glycerophospholipid and is a cell membrane component.
This deuterium labeled lipid is also available in a formulation of multiple lipid standards. The SPLASH® LIPIDOMIX® Standard includes all of the major lipid classes at ratios relative to human plasma, allowing one easy internal standard solution to be added to every sample.

Application

15:0-18:1-d7-PC (1-pentadecanoyl-2-oleoyl(d7)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) has been used:
  • as a component of extraction solvent for lipid isolation from biological samples
  • as an internal standard for spiking serum samples for liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • as an internal standard in analysis of lipids from cystic fibrosis derived cell lines

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) levels are crucial for mediating various cellular processes including membrane movement and cell differentiation. A disturbance in PC levels is implicated in various metabolic disorders.
