General description

Staphylococcal enterotoxin B is a toxic bacterial superantigen. The staphylococcal enterotoxins family have high sequence similarity.

Immunogen

Staphylococcal enterotoxin B from Staphylococcus aureus.

Application

Anti-Staphylococcal Enterotoxin B antibody produced in rabbit has been used:
  • to conjugate with hollow gold nanosphere and as a component of lateral flow immunoassay strip
  • in antibody sandwich immunoassay
  • for coupling with magnetic beads for detection assay

Biochem/physiol Actions

Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) is a superantigen that binds to class II MHC molecules on antigen presenting cells. It stimulates large populations of T cells resulting in acute toxic shock syndrome. It is resistant to denaturation and causes outbreaks of food poisoning that includes emetic responses, diarrhea and GI inflammation.
Staphylococcal enterotoxin B compromises the immune system by triggering inflammation and cytokine release.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.2.

Reconstitution

Reconstitute with 2 ml deionized water.

The functional activity of superantigens is based on capacity of these microbial proteins to bind to both the β-chain of the T cell receptor (TcR) and the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II dimer. We have previously shown that a
