Gene Information

human ... SERPINA3(12)

General description

α1-Antichymotrypsin (α1-ACT) is also known as serpin peptidase inhibitor, clade A member 3 (SERPINA3). It is a 68 kDa serine protease inhibitor, secreted by the liver. It belongs to the serpin superfamily of protease inhibitors. SERPINA3 is located on human chromosome 14q32.1.

Application

α1-Antichymotrypsin from human plasma has been used as a component in yeast extract peptone dextrose broth (YEPD) for biofilm dispersion assays.

Biochem/physiol Actions

α1-Antichymotrypsin (α1-ACT) can block the functions of various serine proteases like chymotrypsin and cathepsin G. It serves as a potential therapeutic target of endometrial carcinoma (EC).
Specific inhibitor of chymotrypsin-like serine proteases. Promotes amyloid-β polymerization in vitro and in vivo. Levels in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid have been found to correlate with progression of dementia in Alzheimer′s patients and induce phosphorylation of tau protein in neurons.
