Gene Information

human ... TP53(7157)

General description

The human wild-type p53 protein is a 393 amino acid nuclear phosphoprotein, present in the nucleus of all normal mammalian cells where it appears to be involved in the regulation of cell proliferation. The normal protein has a very short half-life and is present in only minute amounts in normal tissues and cells. In contrast, mutant p53 protein produced by malignant cells is usually a product of a point mutation in the p53 gene leading to substitution of a single amino acid that significantly prolongs the half-life of the protein. The accumulation of high levels of p53 is a potential novel marker for malignancy.

Specificity

Recognizes p53.

Immunogen

Recombinant human wild type p53

It is more and more recognized that hypoxia plays a role in the resistance of cancer cells to chemotherapy. However, the mechanisms underlying this resistance still need deeper understanding. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of

Topotecan produces DNA damage that induces autophagy in cancer cells. In this study, sensitising topotecan to colon cancer cells with different P53 status via modulation of autophagy was examined. The DNA damage induced by topotecan treatment resulted in cytoprotective autophagy

Cellular DNA damage causes stabilization and activation of the tumor suppressor and transcription factor p53, in part by promoting multiple covalent modifications of the p53 protein, including acetylation. We investigated the importance of acetylation in p53 function and the mechanism
