General description

C18(Plasm)-20:4 PE are plasmenylethanolamines that contains arachidonic acid. Plasmalogens, in general, contain a vinyl-ether linkage at the sn-1 position and at sn-2 position it is highly enriched with polyunsaturated fattyacid, specifically, arachidonic acid (AA).

Application

C18(Plasm)-20:4 PE has been used in the preparation of 2-arachidonic acid-lysophosphatidylethanolamine (2-AA-LPE). It has also been used in the synthesis of biotinylated analyte standard for reverse phase-high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-electrospray ionization-mass spectroscopy.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Plasmalogens are phospholipids, essential for cell function and signaling. Plasmalogens influences membrane structure and molecular dynamics, contributes to the functioning of integral membrane proteins. It plays an important role in the release of membrane fatty acid for signaling upon cell stimulation.
